Video Concept: Telling Stories On YouTube

My personal take is if you start with telling real stories I'd stick to that. Adding fake stories for the entertainment value has merit to be sure!

If your goal is to provide entertainment only then go for it.

If your idea is to present IRL stuff that happens to you, that you see, and the like, then don't muddy it up would be my advice. It is still entertaining and you will draw an audience as you've seen by this video. If that trend with real stuff continues then you have something!

Again, just me being who I am, I don't watch things that provide fake news for entertainment, I prefer the real so concentrate on that. I watch Top Hats and Champagne for his commentary on real things as one example, despite the fact he infuriates me on a regular basis. But I'm a faithful viewer nonetheless.

Just an old guys .02, you mileage may vary, remember to tip your waitress, try the veal.

 

What you find might not be interesting may be to someone else. And it is all in the telling!! And yea, I can see where you are coming from on commentaries, I can't do them on real stuff, it would turn in Old Guy Ranting!

I guess you need to figure out what the focus of the channel is going to be, what your target audience is going to be, and do the content you make that will be fun for you! At the end of the day that is the most important.

Now to comment on your mentioning there are only so many stories in your life to tell.............

30 stories, depending on your posting schedule is a month's worth of content at 1 per day or 10 weeks if you do a 3 x per week posting schedule for that channel - say Monday - Wednesday - Friday.

I don't know what you do for a living, but there should be some stuff that happens there that is just absurd to make a short video out of. How about driving around running errands, riding the bus or other public transit seeing various interesting characters?

I work in EMS, so the stories of stupid abound for me. I work a second job doing inspections which I run into some interesting stuff. Let me pull some things that I've experience that could be turned into content just as an example:

1. My sister's dog breaking into a chew bone on Christmas day - I video taped some of it with my phone in fact - funny stuff [Humor]
2. I found a dog outside, in 50 degree weather, on a chain that was to tangled the pup couldn't get to its water dish, spent 20 mins freeing the dog. [Animal owner fail]
3. Answered a call at work for an emergency where the caller at a nursing facility knew NOTHING, literally, about the patient [healthcare system fail]
4. Went to dinner with a friend who drank so much, they started greeting people at the door of the restaurant while I pulled the car around. [humor]
5. I had a chat with a person during an inspection who was collecting cans from garbage bins. We got talking and got some insight into why this person does it and how much money they actually made doing it. It was insiteful. [human interest]

Depending on your style and delivery, anything can be made to be interesting to someone.

There is a guy a friend turned me on to that posts videos on Facebook. most of his stuff is him ranting into the camera from the cab of his pickup truck on various topics. Everything from politics, to millenials, to what amounts to suck it up with your being offended about everything. They are short and I watch every one.

 

I think this would make an interesting idea for a channel... I am,not,good at storybtelling really, but others have excellent abilities to do so... I would say keep to the truth, even,small short stories that are true will bring more people because it is real versus made up... Maybe if u do run outta stories u can mix it up and cover others true stories and such.... But everyday something new and exciting should happen to where u can film it or you and tell about it ) when u start adding fake stuff in with the real people wont believe any of it is real tbh but,good luck running with this idea
