I loved the Borderlands series, but is Battleborn too similar and too crowded with characters?

In a way people want some variety when it comes to choosing a character. Borderlands addes some too with the expansion giving you new options to make a possible new playthrough. It is too early too judge if the game contains too much characters as you haven't seen it in end product.
