    Good morning/afternoon/evening all you MGN'ers!

If you are getting fed up of huge file sizes, and possible frame drops, maybe you want to be able to record what just happened, rather than pre-empting that something good will happen and recording all the time, which I'd like to add, can cause confusion when deciding what footage to use, especially for montages.

Personally, if a few of those things come in one package for free, then I would definitely want be looking to download it immediately!

    Wait.... it exists already!!!!????

Ok, so depending on your computer specifications, mainly dependent on the graphics card/s you have, I'd highly recommend one of the four following softwares for use when recording or streaming.

    1. AMD Gaming Evolved (Raptr) - This is the software I use, and as the title suggests, only people with an AMD graphics card can use it, however, it is COMPLETELY FREE to download and use as long as your PC meeds the system requirements (please refer to the manufacturer for this information.) I will go into depth with this explanation.

With this software, you are able to record footage in three ways, firstly you can choose to record your game from when you launch it, to ensure you never miss a moment. Secondly, you can being recording for duration of time that is limited only by file size and then stop on hotkey. Thirdly there is highlights, this is my most used tool within the software, exactly as it sounds, you are able to record, what just happened. So now you wont miss a moment. Furthermore, you are able too stream via Raptr directly to Twitch TV, unfortunately Hitbox is NOT a supported feature on Raptr.

    2. Nvidia Geforce Shadowplay - I have never used this software. It is only available to those that have an Nvidia graphics cards, please check the manufacturers website for system requirements.

    Software Link:http://www.geforce.co.uk/geforce-experience/shadowplay

    3. OBS - Please note, there is many tutorials on this software. It can be used to stream and record gameplay, I believe the majority of people use it to stream and record at the same time, so they can upload videos and footage thats been edited afterwards.

    4. Dxtory - THIS IS NOT FREE - This is a paid for software I use on rare occasions. It gives great output, unfortunately the file sizes are quite large, and not really suitable for myself as I mainly upload to youtube. It can also be used to stream to Twitch.

I didnt say you could record with a CPU? Unless its on of them combined CPU/GPU from AMD, but again, I dont use that hardware, so I cant really comment, I'd check the manufacturers website if your in doubt.

I myself am using Mirillis' own "Action!" program. However it is NOT free and comes with a price tag as $29.95 for home use, commercial use it costs $45-49 about. Other program I use if I have to rely on skype-gaming recordings is Bandicam which is not free either but you can record up to 10 minute clips free with waterstamp on top center area of the video. Reason why I sometimes have to rely on Bandicam is the fact that Action! doesn't seem to like me and it makes skype-gaming videos badly off-sync.

I've used MSI Afterburner the quality is okish, but it does require some codecs just to render it, which makes it quite bad in the end.
However I've jumped over to Shadowplay (NVIDIA), it gives small files with decent quality a lightweight on the cpu, but I would recommend OBS or Dxtory.

I'd suggest saving up a few YouTube Checks and invest in some proper professional tools. Adobe Subscriptions, Sony Vegas etc. For only a few US Dollars per month you can get a subscription through Adobe for a majority if not all of their tools.

Absolutely, you cant beat paid for software, just do research and make sure you are purchasing the correct one for you. But agreed Zak, Sony Vegas is a great video editing software and it makes sense to save your Youtube earnings to help produce the highest quality videos for your viewers.

Shadowplay is the way to go when you have an Nvidia GPU, I just love the simplicity of using it and how small the file sizes are, the program is extremely light, I barely lose 1 FPS while using it and the quality output in my opinion is rather great, I usually even tweak the video a little bit to make it even higher quality that It was before, and yes It does have a feature called Shadow or something like that, It can save previous moments up to 15+ mins or more, depending on how you set it up. In conclusion it's one of the best recording softwares that I have ever used and yes It can stream to Twitch.

It's already been said but Mirillis Action!

It has a pricetag but you can't beat its performance, it allows for separate audio track (mic and game) recording, image overlay, webcam and streaming. It's primary use is recording so if you want to get fancy I suggest OBS for green-screen and such.

I mainly find Dxtory the best capture software. You can add codecs to it to reduce the file size and the quality. For eks (x264 codec). And when you edit the video at the end the file size gets even more smaller.
