As most of you may already know, YouTube will be launching their paid subscription service this month. There have been a lot of rumors flying around about current partners not being able to monetize when this new service goes public or how Freedom!/MGN partners may not get access to this new feature.

Just to clear some things up...
    • The paid subscription service will not interfere with your monetized earnings via advertisements if you opt-in.
    • Partners that opt-in to the new service will begin earning a second revenue stream with their new paid subscriptions.
    • There is currently no ETA on when this new feature will be available to Freedom!/MGN partners. We're being told it will be a few weeks until it's available to everybody within the network since YouTube hasn't yet updated their terms of service to include this new feature. When YouTube staff gives us the green-light to roll this feature out, we will immediately.
    • This service will be rolled out to AdSense YouTubers first, not YouTube network partners. So if you see other channels with this feature enabled, they are either with AdSense or their channel was pre-approved by YouTube to get the feature enabled.
Hope this post helps. We'll keep you guys updated with more information as we receive it from YouTube.

What's the point of a paid subscription?

From what we know, the goal of paid subscriptions are to directly support content creators instead of them relying on ad revenue, the removal of advertisements you see before/during videos you watch, as well as exclusive access to content/channels from said creators. Not all of the details have been released, but this is my best understanding of how this will work.

Seems like a promising feature for bigger channels. I think we smaller channel don't have much to offer yet for this option to use when it comes.

Any updates on this? Do we as small creators with a revenue less than what the cost is worth taking advantage? There is some reports out there saying if creators don't opt in nobody can view the content or the content will be deleted.

It looks to me that there's no cost whatsoever to content creators, the 'ultimatum' (if you will) from YouTube is that we sign the agreement for paid subscription revenue share (apparently 55% and can increase depending on viewer watch time, though unconfirmed) or we will have our videos set to private until we agree to it. Keep in mind that this is on top of our regular ad revenue that we already earn.

I personally don't see anything bad about YouTube Red, but it does feel a little forced, in that we don't have a choice if we want our videos to stay public. A bit like how Windows 10 forces all updates on Home users, how it wants and when it wants.

Yea thats the article I believe read. I don't know what channels would be considered popular enough to give you that ultimatum. Id say those with the millions of views and subscribers.

WHY WOULD THEY FORCE THIS ON CONTENT CREATORS.

The big question i'm having is what this means for smaller channels like myself. If everyone is forced to agree to the terms...
In a way it is nit that bad as it counts up with the normal revenue but still, what does a smaller channel have to offer in terms like these.
