I've been seeing a lot of discussion over whether YouTube is dying because of algorithm changes and all the clickbait, and sites like DailyMotion are taking over. I honestly don't think YouTube is dying (although I do agree that obsessive clickbait is by far annoying). I wanted to hear what the MGN community had to say about this touchy subject.

YouTube is always changing to keep up with the market and new media. Everyone has to adjust every year. This is the first year that major YouTubers did not know what was happening.

The Community team feels that if you are going to make a serious effort to do a channel. You must release over 10 min long video once a day. This will keep higher in the search. It is also important to get family and friends to run your videos daily. Even if they dont watch them. This brings your mins viewed up and you will do better in search!

    Hope this helps!

    What Layanor said!
I agree with, and I need to start doing it also.

I don't feel that it is dying, but more so trying to expand it's abilities and reach further to different audiences. I feel as though they are dipping their toes in to test the waters and see if the ideas are good enough. Do I agree with some of the changes, no, but that's why these tests exist. Hopefully they learn that the ideas aren't always the best and they don't implement them for too long. Agreeing with Layanor in terms of making daily videos and having them be at least 10 mins long. The worst thing you can do is expect change and growth when you aren't putting in the effort!

I"m not sure it's dying. I think they are making it increasingly more difficult for small creators to get found, tbh.

I wish I had time to upload to Daily Motion, I find trying to upload multiple vids there tedious. I may start putting my stuff up on my Twitch channel as vods, need to look at that a bit more.

The fact that trying to use the same video without re-rendering with different outro's to suit multiple sites is also a drawback.

If there was a serious comer for going after Youtube I'd get on board early probably.

It also depends on what the content is. If they are making videos on an overplayed game or mabye a game that lost it's trend, they are likely to get less audience. But if they making videos of like BF1 or Overwatch, they may get some tight strong views

I think there's a really big problem with youtube and that's that it isn't afraid yet.

If youtube were to lose Pewdiepie, they legit wouldn't care. If Felix stopped uploading videos, youtube wouldn't be affected at all. Millions of videos a day get uploaded that get millions more views than all of Felix's videos combined. If Pewdiepie were to suddenly decide to become a professonal twitch streamer and just ditch youtube entirely, youtube wouldn't even notice.

However if everyone were to start doing it or a vast majority started uploading on a proper competitive medium, any medium, then things would start to change. Without competition, Youtube isn't going to better itself in our favor- only in its own favor. What are we going to do, leave? It's like an abusive relationship.

How would you keep up to date with the changing algorithm? It's not exactly like they reveal what is required to reach the first page or rank higher, I assume you can only get a rough idea from the analytics?

I think YouTube is far too big of a platform to die. Also click bait has been around since YouTube started. All that changes is how channels go about doing it. I try myself staying away from using it in my thumbnails + titles. But upsets me greatly when I see channels that use it and seem to out grow mine 10 fold.

    Short answer: No

Long answer: YouTube has grown over the span of 10 years, from rarely people uploading to the website to something where everyone uploads a video into YouTubes system every second, and the only company that can kill YouTube is Google themselves, but we are not be seeing that happening anytime soon since how much Google makes from YouTube alone (it is their second best search engine), and how many people there are creating content like, video blogging, let's plays, makeup/tutorials overall, casual videos, music videos, and so much more, I'm not seeing the "dying" part yet, only way it'll really die when nobody uploads to it and have moved on, or world ending.

Sure, there are maybe some changes that we don't like and hope the Googles/YouTubes communications were better rather than fragile than it is right now, but it's on their terms, not ours, it's their fault that they're failing to communicate with their creators, big or small.

Therefore, no I don't think it's dying, it's growing every day even without us realizing it, new content creators pop up all the time without you realizing it or seeing the effects, but trust me, one day you will see someone replacing the channel you found favorable be gone or people won't be watching him/her as much.
