I remember being a big fan of Lemony Snicket's terrible (not in the sense of quality, just in how dreadfully sad they were) books back when they were popular and Netflix's new miniseries adaption of the books is both really faithful and fantastic, more so than the 2007 film adaption with Jim Carrey.

I noticed little details I didn't remember from the books, such as Beatrice actually being the mother of the baudelaire orphans. I'm not sure if that was explicitly stated or I'm just stupid for missing that in the books. I should reread them, anyway, it's been a long time since I've read them. Both Neil Patrick Harris and Patrick Warburton were fantastic in roles.

Neil plays a far better Olaf than Carrey ever could and when he isn't being overly hammy with his delivery, he actually manages to make Olaf come as a bit vile. It also seemed a lot of people were skeptical at first about Warburton playing Lemony Snicket but he adds a really humane if not sobering touch to the narrator normally found in the books and the previous film. It's amazing how he's able to keep a straight face even with Lemony's over the top dialogue and with a dry wit that also makes him a bit sad.

It's really sad how Lemony leaves an opening note towards Beatrice in every episode beginning and in the season finale song, Lemony singing "and she's cold in her grave forever" really hits home with how sad he seems, and despite Olaf being an irredeemable asshole, he seems rather relatable in a sad sense when he's sitting drinking in his wardrobe room.

As much as they diverted on the book plot, seeing the photo of a young Lemony and Olaf in school was kind of sad :( Oh, and Poe is even more of a blithering idiot, but that may be because since it's a live action adaption, you can clearly see one's expressions and acting.

They are doing the books better justice than the movie ever did, it is an odd story to bring to life though so it definitely isn't easy to do justice.

It's interesting to see Neil in this role for sure.
