Is there an actual difference between the three? I'm upgrading my PC soon and want to be sure I'm buying the best processor possible.

yeah the socket and the skylake i7 aka 6700k will have better processing power then the haswell and broadwell cpus would provide however i would say aim for a decent gpu too :)

I though that also depends on the GPU you use as well as assuming that you use adobe to render videos it dumps the task on the GPU similar features happen with song veges pro too

Well, you can have Sony Vegas Pro 13 set to use your CPU only, or your GPU CUDA cores only.

I still would recommend getting a good graphics card too if you're going to shell out on a decent i7 but great point about Sony Vegas - I didn't know that (I use Final Cut with Adobe AE and PS) :)

The 4790k is what I have currently and have been using solid for 2 years now :)
It has little difference in general and has better performance per core than the 6700k, however it does not support DDR4 memory :(
The 5820k I have heard is far superior to both former CPU's at streaming and rendering videos.

At the end of the day, a good processor will not need to be updated anywhere near as soon as a gpu, so investing in a decent one is important.
However, I would highly recommend any of the newer pascal Nvidia gpu's if you ad the budget for it :)

    Hope I helped!

I think all 3 are great! I personally didn't try them because I use Core i5 sadly, but looking forward on using one of them!
