What rendering settings should i use? [Sony Vegas]

Is there a good way to render my videos inn 720p without making a large file? I'm currently using Dxtory as a record software but i found out that sony vegas cannot read x264 codec. I can but it corrupte the file and make the gameplay flashing green, gray and black. I'm currently using the codec: Lagarith Lossless Codec. It works great, the quality is smooth but 8 min recording make the file size 5,29 GB. I know it will be lowered once you render it but still it will end up with 2GB file size. And it take up to 20-40 min to render each video.

Any recommended Sony Vegas rendering settings?

Btw, its Dxtory's fault, not Sony Vegas :) Are you sure your not using the "default settings" on the video settings page?

As in, Dxtory is outputting large file sizes, therefore, the compression rate for the video codec is still the same, except its compressing more data.

In easy speak, if the RAW video is large in size, the edited video from SV12 will still be large in file size.

Please have a look at this post, it may help reduce those file sizes :)

The file size of an video really depends on what codec and quality i use. I'm asking kindly recommended codecs for dxtory (Download). And rendering settings for sony vegas.

Yes, thats very true, but what Im saying is that Dxtory, is notorious for large file sizes, I too use Lagarith.

As for rendering, I just hit render (not render as).

Set FPS to 29,97. If you're making slow motion videos, set the FPS to 60.
If you're recording in windows mode, put it to "Half-size" If you're recording in fullscreen and no windows mode, set it to "full-size

With the rendering settings, I normally use the following with the stars. I get HD videos and its widescreen :)

But the filesize wont be any smaller :p I've seen a few tutorials that i can't find any longer where you can render with good quality and get a small file size.

You can use handbrake. It cuts the file size of the video.

So it won't change the quality? Or is the quality loss not noticeable?

Whenever I used it, I didn't see any changes. It's extremely helpful if you have let's say an hour video that needs to be uploaded. It cuts the time remaining when uploading since the file is cut in half. I would say try it out on one of your videos and if you like it, great, if not, don't use it :)

Yes indeed. when it comes sizing down big file sizes, I use Handbrake. But I'm more keen using Camtasia Studio when I'm editing my videos, it also has a recorder option. But on sometimes I rely on Sony Vegas Pro 13. I have COMPLETELY forgot FRAPS, just because it doesn't feature webcam option and the filesizes are pretty big too.
